October is National Bullying Prevention Month.  To show that Spring Hill Panthers are UPSTANDERS and not BYSTANDERS when it comes to bullying, we participated in Unity Day on Wednesday, October 19th.  This event was sponsored by the Kindness Club.  Unity Day is an annual event occurring during National Bullying Prevention Month that promotes joining together to create healthier communities through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. It was started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in 2011 and is now celebrated around the world. The color associated with Unity Day is orange.  In addition to coming together by wearing orange, students were encouraged to sign a banner that read, “I pledge to be an UPSTANDER and not a BYSTANDER when it comes to bullying”.  The banner will be on display in school during the month of October.

We hope you’ll take this opportunity to talk to your children about bullying prevention and all the positive things we can do to make healthier communities. For more information on the history of Unity Day and its impact, please go to https://www.PACER.org/bullying/about/history.asp

The Kindness Club is a new initiative at Spring Hill ES open to 5th grade students only at this time. The goal is to expand the club to other grades next school year.  The Kindness Club creates events throughout the school year to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
